Answers to Your HVAC Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What regular maintenance do heating and air conditioning systems need?
It is recommended to have your system cleaned annually, once in the spring/summer and once in the fall/winter. Routine maintenance can help extend the life of your unit along with detecting early issues.
How long do HVAC systems last?
Regular preventative maintenance helps keep your HVAC running smoothly for, on average, 12-15 years.
When should I replace my existing heating or air conditioning system?
Consider replacing your air conditioning or heating system when the unit is over 16 years old and experiencing multiple yearly repairs. Today's systems are as much as 60% more efficient and can save money long-term.
When replacing the outdoor unit, should I replace the indoor unit too?
Most likely yes, there are multiple reasons for changing out both units at the same time. Over the long term, it is more cost-efficient to change both units at once versus changing them at separate times due to having to pay labor twice versus only once.
If your indoor and outdoor units are of the same age and are already at or past their expiration date, it is recommended that both units be changed out. With all the new refrigerants that have come out in the last couple of years and older refrigerants being discontinued, replacing your system at the same time is necessary to maintain proper function and communication.
As a commercial business do I need to plan for the EPA ban on ozone damaging refrigerants?
If you are a business owner you may want to take inventory of the refrigerants in your cooling system and determine if they will be available in future. It is also important to know that by 2030, the Environmental Protection Agency will ban refrigerants that contain chlorine because they deplete the earth's ozone layer. The deadline seems like the distant future, but commercial HVAC systems have long lifespans, and the phase out involves ending production of the most common air-conditioning refrigerant, HCFC-22.
How can I reduce costs associated with my Commercial HVAC system?
Biannual maintenance can help lower your system's running cost by allowing it to perform as efficiently as possible. In addition to maintenance, making sure that your ductwork is properly sealed and insulated helps ensure that your unit is running efficiently and no air is being lost.
Maintenance Plan: Yes, we have a one-year biannual plan for a single system at $160 for the year with an additional $100 for each added unit.
